Today is Veterans Day 2020!
On this day we show our gratitude to the men and women of the US military that sacrificed their time and lives for us to enjoy the liberties of America. So you made your Facebook post, and uploaded a pic of the flag to Instagram but now what? What else can you do to really help veterans? I challenge you to think outside the box about how you can help veterans EVERY DAY and not just on Veterans Day!
In the mental health field veterans are often associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, veterans and their family members deal with anxiety, depression, and other disorders just as often as they deal with PTSD. According to Veterans Affairs more than 1.7 million veterans receive treatment in specialty mental health programs. There are studies citing that Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Substance-use Disorders, and Co-occurring Disorders are the MOST prevalent among veterans!
Veterans are a special group who requires specialized support to meet their unique needs. Resources and services are more accessible than ever. As we celebrate our Veterans today its ok to recognize there past service while still acknowledging that they may need ongoing support as a result of their sacrifice.
If you or someone you know is a veteran struggling with mental or behavioral concerns please explore the various resources of veterans affairs or contact a private facility that specializes in treating the disorders like anxiety and depression which very are prevalent in their community.

Oh yea, and before I finish. Let’s also remember to respect and honor the families of veterans who often deal with mental health issues related to there loved one who either served or is currently serving. They may need mental health referrals resources also!
